Gloria Sherman


With over 40 years as an educator, Gloria is currently working with teachers, children, and administrators providing support in student achievement. As a Reading Interventionist in Cherokee County, S.C., she served students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and taught Xtreme Reading for 5 years.

Before teaching in S.C., Gloria retired from North Carolina with 30 years of experience in teaching and school administration. I am in my 42nd year in education. Gloria also works as a consultant for Learning Curve, LLC providing support to after school programs and providing Professional Development to districts in North Carolina in Adolescent Literacy as defined in their NCSIP Plans.

Gloria's words, "I believe in the Strategic Instruction Model and have personally experienced enhanced student success in reading. This model has enabled me to be more effective as a classroom teacher. As a former principal and teacher, I have personally experienced the positive impact SIM strategies can make. I enjoy working as an instructional coach and providing support to enhance the total school environment".

  • 10:30-11:45 am - Xtreme Reading: Tips and Tools (Leitzell, Sherman)
    • Description:
      Xtreme Reading gets “Xtreme” results, but the fast-paced curriculum can often be challenging for new teachers.  This session will highlight helpful ideas and resources available to Xtreme teachers and their coaches that help facilitate and enhance instruction.  It also offers an opportunity to chat with Xtreme coaches to share experiences and get questions answered.

      Objectives:
      Participants will
      •    Become familiar with the resources on the Xtreme websites.
      •    Discuss solutions to common challenges.
      •    Network with others involved with Xtreme Reading.
