FREE Webinar: Get Started with SIM through the SLANT Strategy for Class Participation

Great instruction turns content into capability.

Date: Wednesday, January 28th, 3:30-5pm CST

During this FREE 90 minute webinar, participants will learn the updated SLANT class participation strategy and will be provided with a free digital copy of the manual. This will equip teachers with an immediately actionable instructional resource to create a more active and positive learning environment.

SLANT is a part of KU CRL's Strategic Instruction Model (SIM) Learning Strategies, which  emphasize key elements such as feedback, active engagement, explicit teaching, modeling, mnemonics, and mastery learning. Not only are these practices instructional, but they are also powerful tools to help students become more independently strategic. The SIM strategy components illuminate the science and study of hope and are truly hopeful practices. Setting specific goals, receiving feedback on those goals, and reaching mastery allows students to feel capable and confident. High levels of engagement and interaction assist students in sustaining effort when faced with difficult tasks. Since the people who are doing the talking are the ones thinking, participants will be provided with many opportunities to respond, reflect, share, and move. Often, best practices are explained to teachers in didactic sessions rather than experienced by them. These evidence-based practices will be illuminated and brought to life in this session, enabling teachers to transfer knowledge into their own classrooms. Content and activities will be framed to ensure equity, access, and engagement for all!

Presenter: Karen Staley, SIM Professional Developer and EC Program Specialist with Randolph County Schools (NC)
