SIMposium Session: WRITE Progress Monitoring: Free Web-based Auto-scoring of Student Writing Samples

Session Description:

This interactive session will introduce a progress monitoring system designed to collect data on student writing across genres. Students complete a nine-minute write online directed by a writing prompt.  From there, the writing sample is automatically scored, graphed, and then available to the teacher and student to determine the next step in the writing process. To prepare for this session, participants should consider the data they regularly access and review on their student writing. What do they collect periodically?  What does this provide in determining strategic writing needs? Be prepared to learn about ways to further determine student writing abilities as well as subsequent steps to facilitate strategic writing instruction.
