SIMposium Session: Leadership Pathways into and Within the SIM Network

Wednesday, July 12 - 3:45-4:45 pm

Presenters:

Jocelyn Washburn and Janice Creneti

Session Description:

Becoming certified as a SIM Professional Developer has opened the doors for many educators into new leadership roles within their school, regional, or state context. In this session, participants will learn about a myriad of ways to support other educators to join the SIM Network of Professional Developers as well as how to expand their own roles to increase leadership capacity. For the past three years, presenters, Jocelyn and Janice, have been collaborating with the SIM Work Group entitled “Leadership Pathways” to reflect on, refine, and expand leadership opportunities for the network.

This session will provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of many leadership pathways, including:

  • The relatively new (as of 2020) online application and requirements for the Content Literacy Leadership Institute (formerly known as PPDI) as well as new differentiation options due to an increasing number of applicants who hold micro-credentials.
  • New Xtreme Reading Micro-credentials that go both directions: an LS Professional Developer becoming an XR PDer and an XR PDer becoming an LS PDer
  • New SIM PDer2 Pathway for those interested in becoming certified in SIM, but no longer have their own classroom
  • How to become a SIM Professional Development Leader, an individual who holds institutes for new SIM PDers in partnership with the CRL
  • CRL-led work groups and cadres

  • Session Outcomes:
    • Learn about recent efforts to reflect on, refine, and expand leadership opportunities for the SIM Network
    • Explore ways to expand your own leadership within the SIM Network
    • Understand ways to support other educators to join the SIM Network
